TRUK LAGOON 2005
Chuuk , Federated States of Micronesia. Better known in
the diving world and in the history books as Truk Lagoon, where
beginning on February 17, 1944, US forces sank 64 Japanese Merchant and
War vessels in retaliation for the attacks on Pearl Harbor.
On February 18th 1944 Radio Tokyo announced: "A Powerful American force
suddenly advanced to our Caroline Islands Thursday morning and
repeatedly attacked our important strategic base, Truk, with a great
number of ship based planes. The enemy is constantly repeating
powerfully persistent raids with several hundred fighters and bombers,
attacking intermittently. The war situation has increased with
unprecedented seriousness-nay, furiousness. The tempo of enemy
operations indicates that the attacking force is already pressing upon
our mainland."
Today, more than 61 years later, after a beautiful week of diving, you
are invited to view the beauty and the destruction which lies at depth
in Truk Lagoon. This full color, NARRATED and edited DVD showcases many
of the Japanese ships destroyed in Operation Hailstorm. Historians and
